My name is Nathan Chamberlain, Director of Easy Cool Air P/L.
I started in the air-conditioning industry in 2011, installing spiral duct work in Perth, Western Australia. In 2012 I took on an apprenticeship in Refrigeration and Air-conditioning, specialising in commercial, industrial and domestic installations. I was promoted to Leading Hand, and later worked in Papua New Guinea installing chilled water systems for IT server rooms. I completed my apprenticeship three months early through persistence and a drive to succeed.
I then started my own company, installing air-conditioning in schools and rural communities across WA, before moving to Cairns in 2016 to contract at James Cook University.

Fault finding is charged, because diagnosing a problem is different from quoting a job. This applies to air conditioning and refrigeration fault finding, solar fault finding, and electrical do and charge work. Our rates vary depending on the type of work, so give us a call and we will tell you exactly what it will cost before we book you in.
For air conditioning and refrigeration, we service every Cairns suburb between Palm Cove and Goldsborough. A travel charge may apply beyond that, including west or south of Goldsborough, north of Palm Cove, and west of Smithfield toward the Tablelands.

Yes. We provide a 24 hour rapid response service for commercial refrigeration breakdowns, and emergency electrical response for storm damage, power outages, exposed wiring and faulty switchboards. Time matters when your business is closed or your power is out, so we prioritise these calls.
Repairs are charged as a call out fee plus an hourly labour rate, with a minimum of one hour. The total depends on the fault, so we come out, diagnose the problem and send you a quote before any repair work begins. Call us and we will confirm our rates before you book.
We prefer to send two technicians to most sites for efficient, quality service. If you would rather we send one, please let us know when you book.
Before calling a technician, it is worth checking that the isolator beside your outdoor unit is switched on, that the power at your switchboard is on, and that the batteries in your remote are fresh.
It is also worth checking how long ago the system was installed. If it is recent there may be an installation error, in which case the installer should look at it. If it is still under warranty, the warranty agent should. If neither applies, it will need a technician to diagnose the fault.
Every 12 months for a home, and every three to six months for a commercial site. If your system is not running efficiently, smells of mould and bacteria, or looks visibly dirty, it is overdue. Our hydro sanitise clean uses non toxic, non acidic agents to clean the unit thoroughly rather than simply clearing dust.
How much does a clean cost?
Cleans are priced per unit, with a discount when you have three or more. Ducted units are priced separately from split systems, and our rates are lower during the cooler months. Give us a call and we will quote you over the phone.
A standard back to back split system takes roughly four hours to install and have running. This varies with how easily the cabling and piping can be routed. Ducted systems depend on the design and structure of the property, so we measure up during a complimentary onsite assessment and quote from there. Our size calculator will give you a guide beforehand.
Mitsubishi Electric, Daikin, Fujitsu and Toshiba are our preferred brands. In Far North Queensland geckos can get into the printed circuit boards and damage them, which is expensive to replace. The blue chip brands offer more internal protection against this. From a professional standpoint, you do get what you pay for.
The signs are not always obvious. Watch for mould, mildew or condensation, which can point to inefficient cooling or a sealing problem. Ice building up on the door or evaporator coils can mean the unit is overloaded and cannot maintain airflow.
Persistent buzzing may indicate dirty or faulty components, rising power bills often follow inefficient cooling, and stock spoiling before its use by date suggests inconsistent temperatures. If you notice any of these, have it checked by a qualified technician.
You can generally expect around ten years from a commercial refrigerator. If it is correctly sized for the job, serviced regularly and well maintained, it can perform well for 15 years or more.
Usually a faulty thermostat, a temperature set too low, or a compressor or technical fault. In the Cairns climate refrigeration works harder against the heat and humidity, so small faults show up faster here than they would further south.
Sometimes. A new system adds load, and older boards may not have the capacity or the spare circuit space to take it safely. Because we are licensed for both air conditioning and electrical, we assess this as part of the quote rather than sending you to a second contractor part way through the job.
In Queensland, safety switches are required on power point circuits when a home is sold and on domestic rental properties. The Electrical Safety Office recommends testing yours every three months by pressing the test button. Safety switches protect people from electric shock, whereas circuit breakers protect the wiring and appliances, so having one does not replace the other.
Landlords must install interconnected smoke alarms in rental properties, meaning that when one sounds they all sound. Homeowners are required to transition to the same standard by 2027. Alarms also lose sensitivity over time as dust and contaminants build up, so older units should be replaced rather than simply tested.
